If you are, then drop me a word and I will add you as an author to our school's community blog where you can share your own Ann's experiences or any of your life's experiences, tips ideas or anything that you would like to blog about in this space. Usually people don't want to start because they don't think they can continue, but if you have one-off random thoughts that you would like to jot, without having to create a whole new blog, this is the place to do it!

Bathroom Buuchees
why on earth were we called that?
I remember Bathroom Buchees.I was at St. Ann's from 1970-75.
We used to eat tamarind from the tree and collect lady bugs.
I was in St Anns from about 71 to 76 or so and the saying was "St Anns cutties bathroom buchees' Fond memories of the nuns rules and regulations. A lot of it hasnt changed - thank God for that
anybody from the class of 1978
Hi. I was there from 1970 to 1973 and yes, I remember 'bathroom buchees' too. We still talk about that phrase in my family and laugh. I also remember the tamarind tree growing in the school grounds, but those grounds dont exist any more. Neither does the stage on the other side. Does anyone remember the rocking boats, but that yard with the rocking boats has gone too.

I am Barbara Ann Gomes! I was in St. Ann's from 1964 to 1969! I was from the ISC Section and passed Senior Cambridge from this lovely school!
I remember being called: St. Ann's Kutties, Bathroom Buchees...I remember St. Raphael who used to stand guard at the Main Gate....Sr. Barbara in the Office....Sr. Adriana our school Principal who also taught us Scripture, Sr. Pia, Sr. Grace,Miss Gilbert who used to make us kneel down under the big tamarind tree as punishment if we did not wear Bloomers under our divided skirts for the Games period!
I remember Ms. Celine D souza the very strict Class 7th Teacher, Miss Diaz the energetic PTI who changed the Games Uniform in 1968 from Navy blue divided skits and white yoked blouses to the HOUSE COLOURS.....Yellow for Daffodils, Purple for Pansies, Red for Roses and Green for Shamrocks! I belonged to the PANSIES!
I remember Sr. Maria Goretti the Needlework Teacher! I was never a favourite of hers and was always made to kneel down outside in the corridor because I hated Needlework period and always kept losing my needle!
I remember Sr. Adriana....her shaky handwriting, her large Solar Toupee and her cute Italian accent as she taught us THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES during our Scripture Class for the ISC ( Senior Cambridge Exam) in Grade 11!
I remember Mrs. Elaine Francis who taught us Charles Dickens GREAT EXPECTATIONS for the Class 10th exam in 1968! She had just lost her husband and would break down frequently as she read to us the first few chapters of the novel that gave long descriptions of GRAVEYARDS!
I remember Mrs. Shirley Conway my Geography Teacher in Grade 10 in 1968 who gave me this deep love for LANDS AND PEOPLES! She migrated to Australia with her family that year!
I remember dear Sr. Grace.....such a lovely, graceful young nun who taught us Indian History and would gently turn the pages of the History Text Book she taught from with long, graceful fingers! I remember her cheerful, radiant smile and gentle ways!
I remember Celine Stafford, the Head girl with a very short hair cut! 1968-69!
I remember the sound of tinkling pianos all over the school! There were about 7 or 8 of them!I remember the PARLOUR opposite the NUNS' CHAPEL, that had a GRAND PIANO in it. We used to do our TRINITY COLLEGE OF LONDON Music Exams there!
I remember the Singing Classes we had every week in the Hall....An Anglo Indian Teacher with a sweet smile, permed hair and pretty printed dress with a gathered skirt would sit gracefully on the Piano Stool and tickle the ivories for us as we sang old songs like SANTA LUCIA, YOU CAN SMILE, PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES IN AN OLD KIT BAG......etc., etc... How I loved those Singing Classes!
I remember Sr. Bernadette, my Piano Teacher! She moved to the convent in Bolarum!
I remember some of my old classmates:
YASMIN SHAH, MEENAKSHI KURPAD, JAYANTHI LAL, PRABHA PANTH, BEENA ACHARYA, USHA BENDAGIRI, BHAVANI SUBRAMANIAM!
I am on Face Book as BARBARA ANN JOHN
( my married name) I was BARBARA ANN GOMES in School.
I would love to get in touch with any of the old Annites again!
That was such an AMAZING school and I learnt so much there!
OUR SCHOOL SONG:
Scenes of our childhood,
Scenes of our youth,
The School we love and cherish dear
Preparing us for Life's rough way
St. Ann's forever, we will cheer!
CHORUS:
God bless our dear old school,
Our Mothers, Sisters, Teachers dear
Our Parents too and all our friends
Who will write thy name immortal
St Ann's, our Alma Mater fair
God bless you, is our daily prayer!
Knowledge is power,
We do admit,
But that alone is not worthwhile
.........I forget the rest of this verse.....
PLEASE, PLEASE get in touch with me if you were in St Ann's from 1964 to 1969
